Carnegie is a borough about 5 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, named after Andrew Carnegie, who gave it one of his libraries. Chartiers Creek runs through the middle of town, and Main Street has come back strong with shops and restaurants. The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, built in 1899 on Beechwood Avenue, is still the centerpiece of the community.
Carnegie formed in 1894 from the boroughs of Chartiers and Mansfield, and many of its homes date from its busiest years, when the population peaked around 1940.
