Bethel Park is a South Hills borough about 7 miles south of Pittsburgh, named after the historic Bethel Presbyterian Church. It is one of the few suburbs served by all three light rail lines, with the Red and Blue lines ending at South Hills Village and the Silver Line running to Library. Route 88 and U.S. Route 19 carry most of the traffic, and the neighborhoods off them are mostly quiet residential streets.
Bethel Park grew in waves. Streetcar lines in the early 1900s brought the first neighborhoods, and the borough kept growing after it incorporated in 1949, so today it has about 13,800 homes, from older houses near the original trolley stops to mid-century and newer single-family homes. Older homes tend to need extra attention on trim, window sills and basement stairs, while newer homes with open kitchens show crumbs and fingerprints first.
