Jefferson Hills is a South Hills borough on Allegheny County's southern edge, bordered by Pleasant Hills, West Mifflin, Clairton, South Park and Union Township, with the Monongahela River along its southeastern side. It was Jefferson Township from 1828, became a borough in 1950 and took the name Jefferson Hills in 1998. Route 51 and the Mon-Fayette Expressway (Route 43) run through it, and AHN Jefferson Hospital has served the area since 1977.
Jefferson Hills is mostly residential, with about 5,000 homes, most of them on the flatter upland areas between the creek valleys of Peters Creek, Beam Run and Lewis Run. It grew about 17 percent between 2010 and 2020, so newer homes with open kitchens and finished basements sit alongside older houses.
